MANILA, Philippines — Six individuals sustained injuries while over 1,000 families were displaced by the flooding and mudslides in Banaue, Ifugao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Tuesday.
NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said ten barangays (village) and 1,054 families were affected by flooding in Banaue. The flooding has since eased, he added.
“Wala tayong fatality diyan sa nangyaring flashflood na ‘yan. Pero we had received reports na anim na kababayan natin ang nasugatan o na-injure as consequence of the floods,” Timbal said during the Laging Handa briefing.
(We did not record any fatality due to the flash flood. But we received reports that six were injured as a consequence of the floods.)
According to Timbal, 1,048 houses were damaged by the flooding while agriculture sector damage was pegged at P16.6 million.
Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P860,000.
Timbal also reported that the two families that stayed in the evacuation center in the area had returned home.
So far, there have been no reports of tourists being stranded in Banaue due to the flooding there, said Timbal.“We’re not seeing any other untoward incident. So kung meron mang naabutan, mukhang they (tourists) were relatively safe during that emergency at probably na-house sila diyan nitong mga residente dyan sa area,” Timbal said.
